Abstract

During the reign of the national leader H. Aliyev, the necessary measures were taken
towards the restoration and protection of Azerbaijani cities, which had historically developed as a
result of his direct efforts. According to the relevant decrees issued by him in different years, the
cities of Icherisheher, Shusha, Sheki, Ordubad in Baku, the village of Nardaran in Baku, the Nizami
Ganjavi Mausoleum Complex in Ganja, the Ordubad region, Chiraggala and ancient Shabran are
declared reserves. In 2000, taking into account the ancient urban planning traditions of Azerbaijan,
the Old City was included in the UNESCO list of tangible heritage along with the Palace Complex of
the Shirvanshahs and the Maiden Tower.
