Discharge of formation water produced during oil production into the environment is one of the major environmental waste problems. For this reason, determination of its composition and purification is one of the important issues. Various methods of determining the formation water composition have been developed. Even today, research works on modern methods continue. In the considered work, H2, CH4, C6, C7 gases contained in formation water were determined by means of a chromatograph and the quantum yield was determined. Ampoules made of quartz material were used in the research, and a UV (ultra violet) mercury lamp was used as the radiation source. 21 nm TiO2 powder was used as a photocatalyst. An Agilent Technologies 7890A GC chromatograph was used for chromatographic analyses. During the photolysis of the heterogeneous system, the quantum yield of hydrogen increases more than the amount of the catalyst, and saturation is observed in large amounts of TiO2 oxide. In contrast to the formation of H2, the dependence of the quantum yield of high-molecular hydrocarbons on the TiO2 /H2O ratio is characterized by a maximum.
