Research Data & Data Availability Policy
Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) supports transparency, research integrity, and reproducibility in scientific research. Authors are expected to maintain accurate research records and, where appropriate and legally and ethically permissible, make data supporting their published findings available for verification and further research.
1. Research Data
Research data may include, but are not limited to:
-
numerical datasets;
-
measurements and experimental observations;
-
survey data;
-
computational and simulation results;
-
images and figures;
-
models;
-
source code and algorithms;
-
supplementary materials;
-
other materials necessary to understand or reproduce the reported research.
2. Data Accuracy and Integrity
Authors are responsible for ensuring that the research data underlying their manuscript are accurate and have not been fabricated, falsified, manipulated, or selectively presented in a misleading manner.
Authors should retain underlying research records for an appropriate period following publication, in accordance with applicable institutional, disciplinary, contractual, and legal requirements.
3. Data Availability
Where reasonably possible, authors are encouraged to make data supporting the findings of their article publicly available through an appropriate institutional, disciplinary, or general-purpose research data repository.
Where available, deposited datasets should be assigned a persistent identifier, such as a DOI. Authors should provide data in formats that facilitate appropriate verification and reuse.
4. Data Availability Statement
Where applicable, authors should include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscript indicating where and under what conditions the supporting research data can be accessed.
Examples include:
Publicly available data:
“The data supporting the findings of this study are available in [repository name] at [persistent identifier/URL].”
Data available on reasonable request:
“The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.”
No new data:
“No new data were created or analyzed in this study.”
Where data cannot be made publicly available, authors should state the reason and describe any applicable access conditions or restrictions.
5. Restricted or Confidential Data
The journal recognizes that research data may not always be suitable for public disclosure due to:
-
participant confidentiality;
-
personal data protection;
-
ethical restrictions;
-
national security considerations;
-
contractual obligations;
-
intellectual property restrictions;
-
legitimate commercial confidentiality.
Authors should clearly explain any applicable restrictions in the Data Availability Statement.
Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) does not require authors to violate legal, ethical, confidentiality, or contractual obligations in order to make research data publicly available.
6. Data During Peer Review
Editors or reviewers may request access to underlying research data when reasonably necessary to assess the reliability and validity of a manuscript.
Any confidential data provided during peer review must be treated confidentially and used solely for the purpose of evaluating the manuscript.
7. Reproducibility
Authors should describe their methods, materials, computational procedures, assumptions, and analytical approaches in sufficient detail to enable qualified researchers to understand and, where reasonably possible, reproduce the reported research.
For computational studies, authors are encouraged to provide relevant source code, algorithms, model parameters, and software information where appropriate.
8. Data Fabrication and Falsification
Fabrication, falsification, inappropriate manipulation, or intentional misrepresentation of research data constitutes research misconduct.
Suspected data integrity concerns will be investigated in accordance with the journal's Research Misconduct Policy and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Where credible concerns arise, the journal may request original research data, laboratory records, analytical files, or other supporting documentation.
9. Corrections to Published Data
Authors who discover a significant error in published data or analyses should promptly notify the Editorial Office.
Depending on the nature and significance of the issue, the journal may publish a correction, Expression of Concern, retraction, or other appropriate editorial notice.
Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) encourages responsible research data management, transparency, and reproducibility while respecting legitimate ethical, legal, confidentiality, and intellectual property requirements.
