Peer Review Process

Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) applies a double-anonymous peer review process to ensure an impartial, rigorous, and transparent evaluation of submitted manuscripts.

In the double-anonymous review process, the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout the peer review process. Reviewers are not provided with the names, institutional affiliations, or other identifying information of the authors, and authors are not informed of the identities of the reviewers.

1. Initial Editorial Assessment

All manuscripts submitted to Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) undergo an initial editorial assessment before being sent for peer review.

The editorial assessment considers:

  • relevance to the journal's aims and scope;

  • originality and scientific significance;

  • methodological soundness;

  • clarity and completeness of presentation;

  • compliance with the journal's submission requirements;

  • ethical and publication standards;

  • potential plagiarism or other publication ethics concerns.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal's basic requirements or fall outside its scope may be rejected at this stage without external peer review.

2. Selection of Reviewers

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are normally sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject of the manuscript.

Reviewers are selected based on their:

  • academic and research expertise;

  • subject-matter knowledge;

  • publication record and relevant experience;

  • absence of conflicts of interest with the authors or the research.

The journal may invite additional reviewers when necessary, particularly when the evaluations received are substantially different or further expert assessment is required.

3. Double-Anonymous Review

Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) uses a double-anonymous review model.

Authors should therefore ensure that their manuscript does not contain information that unnecessarily reveals their identity during the review process.

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of the manuscript and must not attempt to identify the authors.

Reviewers must not use, share, or disclose unpublished information obtained through the peer review process.

4. Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts objectively, fairly, and constructively.

Reviews should address, where applicable:

  • originality and significance of the research;

  • scientific and methodological quality;

  • validity of the results and conclusions;

  • clarity and organization of the manuscript;

  • adequacy of references;

  • ethical considerations;

  • suitability for publication in Scientific Works (SW AzUAC).

Reviewers should provide clear and constructive comments that can assist authors in improving their manuscript.

Reviewers should disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest and decline the review when they cannot provide an impartial assessment.

5. Editorial Decision

Following the completion of peer review, the Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor considers the reviewers' reports and makes the editorial decision.

Possible decisions include:

  • Accept;

  • Minor Revision;

  • Major Revision;

  • Reject.

The final editorial decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately designated editor and is not determined solely by an individual reviewer.

Where necessary, the editor may request additional reviews before reaching a decision.

6. Revisions

When revisions are requested, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a clear response to the reviewers' comments.

The revised manuscript may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation.

The number of revision rounds depends on the extent of the revisions required and the editor's assessment.

7. Confidentiality and Ethical Conduct

All manuscripts submitted to Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) are treated as confidential documents during the editorial and peer review process.

Editors and reviewers must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts or use unpublished material for personal or professional purposes.

Any concerns regarding research integrity, plagiarism, conflicts of interest, or other publication ethics issues identified during peer review may be investigated in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies and relevant COPE guidance.

8. Reviewer Anonymity

Reviewer identities are not disclosed to authors as part of the double-anonymous peer review process.

The journal does not publish reviewer names alongside individual articles unless a separate editorial policy explicitly provides otherwise.

9. Appeals

Authors who believe that an editorial decision was based on a significant factual or procedural error may submit a reasoned appeal to the Editorial Office.

Appeals should clearly explain the grounds for reconsideration and provide relevant evidence where applicable.

Appeals will be considered by the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately designated editor who was not directly responsible for the original decision, where feasible.

10. Peer Review and Publication Timeline

Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) aims to process manuscripts efficiently while maintaining the quality and integrity of peer review.

The time required for peer review may vary depending on the subject of the manuscript, availability of qualified reviewers, the number of review rounds, and the complexity of the revisions required.

The journal does not guarantee acceptance or publication within a specific period.

Scientific Works (SW AzUAC) is committed to maintaining a rigorous, fair, confidential, and double-anonymous peer review process in accordance with recognized standards of scholarly publishing and relevant COPE guidance.
