ISSUES OF FORMATION OF THE CENTERS OF SMALL TOWNS OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN

Abstract

The article considers issues of the formation of a small city centre in the conditions of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is noted that the city centre has played a large role in the appearance and silhouette of the urban settlement. However, the purpose and magnitude of it changed as the social and economic life of society was transformed. The historical evolution of the centre left its traces in many cities of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Therefore, speaking of the modern centre, it should be borne in mind its reconstruction and further development in connection with the new social significance of small towns as district centres, which are of great importance in the life of the population of the city itself and the adjacent area. Modern functions of the small city centre are versatile and depend on the size of the city, however, the main of them (administrative, cultural and commercial) can be found in each of the cities. As the focus of urban and extra-urban attraction, the buildings performing these functions tend to be at the centre of the urban plan on the main intertwining routes.
