Baku, like any other major city in the former Soviet Union, has not been spared the fate of typical prefabricated housing districts. And the first step in working with the legacy of mass housing construction is to recognise and understand its significance. This article examines the period when a significant proportion of the housing stock was built in the capital of the Republic, examining the planning features and analyzing the structure of the mass housing construction districts of the soviet period.
