Abstract

The use of alternative energy sources is one of the most important areas of modern energy policy, aimed both at improving the environment and saving traditional fuel and energy resources. The meaning of the ecological and energy optimization process is not to replace one energy source with
another, but economic and industrial transformation, decarbonization and decentralization. Russian aggression has caused unprecedented destruction of the fuel and energy infrastructure of Ukraine,
which has created a threat to the reliability of providing end consumers with natural gas. The article examines the processes of formation and development of the country's biomethane industry market as a response to modern global environmental and energy challenges and threats. The possibility of complete or partial replacement from a technical point of view of the traditional and most common organic fuel - natural gas - with biomethane, obtained during the disposal of waste from the agroindustrial complex, household waste, etc. to meet the needs of the housing and communal economy of Ukraine, is justified.
