From primitive positioning methods used in the past, thanks to today's technological developments, four-dimensional (4D) positioning has been achieved with the help of satellites. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) which bring a new concept to positioning, are used for search and rescue, target acquisition, landing and takeoff of aircraft in military areas in limited or no-visibility weather conditions, navigation of all land, sea and air vehicles, It is effectively used in many civil fields such as geodetic and geodynamic surveys, cadastral surveys, deformation surveys, vehicle tracking systems, tourism, agriculture, forestry, sports, security, hydrographic surveys and GIS applications. The fact that this GNSS technology, which forms almost every aspect of our daily life and provides many opportunities, has real-time and three-dimensional position, speed and timing and navigation capabilities, encourages countries to establish their own regional or global satellite systems for the sake of national interests.
